Nowadays, mobile users expect apps to work even when they’re offline. Otherwise, a poor network connection can give a poor user experience. Offline mode is no longer just an extra feature you can choose to add to your app, it’s something many users expect, especially for delivery apps with GPS navigation, apps for urgent medical assistance, construction businesses, and banking apps.
As you may already know, since v17 R2, 4D for iOS already allows users of the application to view data offline. But something was missing.
What about offline tasks?
As of 4D v18 R4, you can send notifications to your application users. Now with 4D v18 R6, you can start data synchronization with a push notification.
This could be useful, for example, in the case of delivery tracking applications. First, the delivery information is updated in the database, then a notification is sent to the customer. The notification contains a request to synchronize the data, so when the customer consults the record on their smartphone, the data is up to date.
4D for iOS already lets you take advantage of your database relations to create dynamic and complex apps.
But many of our 4D for iOS developers have asked for more, and once again 4D listened! 4D v18 R6 includes splendid features for relation interactions.
Let’s delve into the details!
Actions using parameters have been available since 4D v17 R5, and we’re constantly working to make your apps more and more interactive with enhanced mobile experiences. In 4D v18 R6, new parameter formats are available: Signature and Barcode!
Nowadays, barcodes and QR codes are everywhere. They make things a lot easier because they save time, increase efficiency, and reduce human errors!
As you’ve probably guessed, the 4D v18 R6 feature release will allow you to go directly to the right view by scanning a barcode or QR code. Let’s delve into the details and discover how this feature will improve the way you can navigate through your apps.
4D v18 R5 includes a new great feature: Deep linking. That’s cool, but what the heck is it?
Here’s an example:
Have you ever gotten an email from Netflix asking if you want to continue watching a movie that you stopped halfway through? You click the link, but it doesn’t take you to the Netflix home page or launch the application on your phone. Instead, clicking the link opens the player, and resumes the movie exactly where you stopped.
That’s deep linking! It allows users to open a specific view in their app just by clicking on a URL (significantly improving the user experience and increasing user retention and engagement).
Monitoring access to your mobile app is a very important capability that deserves further consideration. Email validation is one of the simplest and most secure ways to determine the authenticity and legitimacy of the person trying to log into your app. 4D for iOS enables you to easily handle this validation process by verifying that an email comes from whom it claims to be sent from, and by allowing you to block harmful uses of the email.
Very cool stuff is coming in 4D for iOS with 4D v18 R3! To make a long story short, 40+ ready-to-use templates are at your disposal and you have access to an additional integrated Gallery which can be used directly from the project editor. The gallery is based on a dynamic list of up-to-date templates from GitHub. Feel free to use and test the templates and even share your own custom-designed templates with other developers!
