From Developer Preview to Beta

September 2023 was a major milestone for 4D with the introduction of Qodly Studio for 4D as developer preview for all 4D Silver+ partners.

After months of improvements and new features, and very positive reception from 4D developers, the feature set is now ready for you to build advanced business web apps leveraging your 4D data and logic. Qodly Studio for 4D being beta means it is now the moment for you to prepare your journey: switch from binary to project if not already done & embrace coding with ORDA classes. Want to learn more about these topics? Do not hesitate to browse our store for on-demand training. It is not too late to get ready before Qodly Studio for 4D reaches its final state!

And here’s more good news! We’re glad to announce that Qodly Studio for 4D is now available for any 4D developer, a Partner or not. Just refresh your licenses and follow the guidelines for enabling Qodly Studio for 4D on your setup.

Here’s a wrap-up of the Qodly technology you get by choosing 4D:

DESIGN YOUR WEB APP with Qodly Studio for 4D

Qodly Studio for 4D is your web-browser based studio allowing you to design Qodly Pages (formerly known as webforms).

Qodly Pages benefit from ready-made UI components with complete CSS support and are powered by Qodly Sources (formerly known as datasources). Qodly Sources are a unique 4D feature: from a simple scalar variable to Entity or Entity Selection, they let you display data in Qodly Pages but also run your 4D ORDA code just by mapping them to user events such as on button click or on page load.

Can’t find the UI component you secretly want? From the specific calendar widget only used by your customers to wonderful bar charts essential to visualize your data, your Qodly app has no limit thanks to custom components. No surprise if there’s already several of them available on github. Give them a try, it is as easy as downloading a file and upload it in Qodly Studio.

Qodly Studio for 4D introduces with 4D 20 R6 another unique feature: Page States. Your Qodly Pages can now have as many visual states as your imagination is able to design. Enable or disable states is a child’s play. For example, change Page layout on the user click:

Or use the advanced condition editor to adapt your Qodly Page layout according to Qodly Sources values or user Privileges.

Login in and out is made easier than ever. Just setup your 4D Rest server with Force Login and design your login page. No 4D licence used until your user authentifies your app. Qodly Studio for 4D’s Roles and Privileges editor gives you an easy UI to edit your REST privileges, you’re ready for a completely secured access to your web application.

You also get a load of Qodly Page templates to get inspiration, dialogs, singleton support, and many more features.

Run IT with Qodly Renderer

Ever wondered how easy it is to deploy a Qodly application to production? Qodly Studio for 4D assembles your designed pages in JSON files located in your project folder. Just deploy your project as usual and share the main Qodly page url to your users. Qodly renderer does the rest by retrieving Qodly Pages JSON files, rendering them in HTML in the user web browser, and orchestrating user interactions by querying the 4D server through REST. Forget the hassle of building your own REST API and managing all user events.

Don’t know where to start?
