Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, and as always the same question comes up in development teams: can I upgrade my machine, and can I upgrade my users? With each new OS release, our teams test and certify 4D so that you can move your environment forward with confidence, on macOS as well as on Windows. Our latest compatibility matrix below summarizes the situation as of September 2026, for both shipped and upcoming 4D versions.
On macOS side
macOS 27 Golden Gate is already compatible with every 4D version currently shipping, 4D 20.8 LTS, 4D 21 R3 and 4D 21.2 LTS, as well as with the upcoming 4D 20.9 LTS and 4D 21 R4.
Certification comes with 4D 21.3 LTS and 4D 21 R5. These are the first releases for which macOS 27 Golden Gate is part of our full quality process, and they are the ones we recommend for a fleet-wide deployment of the new macOS.
At the other end of the range, our certification effort stays focused on the three most recent macOS versions. As a consequence, macOS 14 Sonoma moves from certified to compatible starting with 4D 21.3 LTS and 4D 21 R5. macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 26 Tahoe remain certified across the whole matrix.
macOS 27 Golden Gate marks the end of the Intel era for Apple, as it only runs on Silicon macs.
On Windows side
No change for Windows 11, Windows Server 2019-2022 and Windows Server 2025: they remain certified for all shipped and upcoming 4D releases.
Windows Server 2016 reaches Microsoft end of support in January 2027. Following the same rule we applied to Windows 10, we will not certify new 4D releases on this OS beyond 4D 20.9 LTS and 4D 21 R4: it moves to compatible for 4D 21.3 LTS and 4D 21 R5. If you still run 4D Server on Windows Server 2016, now is a good time to plan the migration.
