Starting with 4D 20 R7 and upcoming 4D 20.6, you can now build Stand-Alone applications without needing an embedded license. Let’s dive into the details of this new behavior.
Building a Stand-Alone application without an embedded license
A Stand-Alone application can now be built without embedded license. This behavior is available with 4D 20 R7 (and of course 4D 20 R8), and 4D 20 LTS starting 4D 20.5 build 101668 and upcoming 4D 20.6.
What about deployed applications?
When the end user opens the Stand-Alone application for the first time, the license registration dialog will appear, allowing them to register a 4D Desktop license. The procedure is the same as for 4D Server.
Licenses registered with the dialog are stored in the system:
– /Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/4D/Licenses on macOS
– C:\ProgramData\4D\Licenses on Windows
Note that a Stand-Alone application running with a 4D Desktop license will not display the Sponsored dialog when quitting.
