On the way to provide Windows 64-bit version of the 4D product line we reached a major milestone, an Altura-free version. Altura is a library to emulate MacOS functionality on Windows, which was used to help plug-in developers to provide their products on Windows.
Although internally 4D for the most part did not use Altura any longer for a while, it was still deeply integrated to provide the functionality for 3rd party plug-ins.
4D Developer Edition and 4D Volume Desktop v16 Windows 64-bit will be the first Altura-free versions. This is giving 3rd Party plug-in developers an occasion to finalize their updates and test their products. Of course, the removal of the Altura library will introduce some compatibility breaks with older plug-ins.
Because of this major change 4D Developer Edition and 4D Volume Desktop 64-bit will still be delivered as preview versions. 4D Internet Commands is currently not supported in these versions.
The complete 4D product line will become final as 64-bit products in upcoming R-releases.
Please note that 4D Server v16.x 64-bit Windows is absolutely not impacted at all, it still allows the usage of Altura based plug-ins for compatibility reasons (which will change with future 4D v16 R-releases and 4D v17).
